It’s hard to feel your absolute best when there are so many things competing for your attention. When you prioritise everyone else’s needs before your own, you start to see cracks forming in your health and happiness.
By choosing to put yourself first everything else will fall into place.
When you top up your well so to speak, you have SO much more to give. You have more energy, more love and more enthusiasm for life. Everyone wins!
It can be a big mindset shift for women to prioritise their own needs BUT don’t for one second feel guilty. The best thing you can do not only for yourself but for your family, friends and career is to make time for self care.
The great thing is you don’t need to spend a load of time on this when it’s something you do every single day. There will always be something that seems more important BUT there is nothing more important than your health and happiness.
The best way to succeed at self care is to schedule it into your day. See it as a non-negotiable and do it even when you don’t feel like it.
Below I’ve listed my top five self care steps to start your day in a positive way. Before you’ve even left your house you’ll be winning at life!
Now I totally get that some days finding the time for all five steps just isn’t going to happen! Your baby might have been up all night or you had to stay up late to meet a deadline at work. PLEASE don’t beat yourself up when days like that happen, because they definitely will happen! They key is to not set yourself unrealistic goals. Even if you take the time to do one of these steps you will see a positive shift in your life. Once that step becomes second nature, it will be easy to incorporate a second step.
Self care doesn’t need to be complicated, it just needs to happen.
1. Focus Your Mind
Take a few minutes before you start your day, to practice mindfulness meditation. It helps to clear your mind of negative thoughts and cultivates an environment of focus and calm. Try my ten minute guided meditation for self love.
2. Make Time To Move Your Body
Whether you have 5 minutes or 30 minutes just get your body moving. My personal favourite is yoga but you could do pushups, burpees or anything that gets the hard pumping. Try my 15 minute energising yoga class.
3. Drink Warm Lemon Water
Your body gets very dehydrated overnight. Start your day with a big glass of water with fresh lemon juice. It’s best to drink warm water as it’s kinder to your digestive system and lemon is great for detoxification. Plus it yum!
4. Make Time For A Healthy Breakfast
Whatever you do, don’t skip breakfast. Your body and brain needs fuel to function properly. You want to set yourself up to have the best day possible and eating a nutritious breakfast is crucial. My go to breakfast is a smoothie. It takes a few minutes to make and you can drink it while you continue to get ready. Try my Pineapple Ginger Green Smoothie.
5. Write Down Your Goals For The Day
There is nothing worse than constantly feeling busy but not actually getting anything done. With such an overload of information on the internet and social media it is SO easy to get distracted. Write down your goals so it is clear in your mind what you need to get done. Make your goals achievable and don’t overwhelm yourself.
Implementing these five simple steps will have such a positive impact on your day. Try it out and let me know in the comments below which is your favourite step and how it is impacting your life.
