The focus of my work over the past few months has been rooted in the concept of self love. I honestly can’t think of a topic more important. How can anything possibly flourish if ultimately we don’t love ourselves. You could be the most successful person in the world but without self love it is only external success. External appearances do not reflect what someone is experiencing on the inside. I keep thinking back to Robin Williams, he touched so many people’s lives and his memory and life’s work will live on for a very long time. He made so many people laugh but on the inside he was suffering so very deeply. It breaks my heart. I want everyone to feel deep love for themselves.
The more I immerse myself in this work, the more I become aware of how much it is needed. It takes commitment and courage to stand up and say, ‘you know what, I deserve this. I will dedicate time every day to nourishing myself on a deep level’. In my experience this has to be a daily practice, it’s too easy to slip back into old habits and thought patterns. My dad always said to me and still does that ‘the mind is so powerful it has the ability to make people take their own lives if not exercised and managed correctly’.
Those negative thoughts you have about yourself, they are not true! They simply aren’t true. Just as we must exercise our bodies for them to remain healthy the same is true for the mind. Positive thinking, affirmations, meditation, yoga are all practices that focus on bringing optimal health to your mind. So next time you say to yourself ‘I hate my body. I’m not good enough. No one will ever love me. I don’t deserve what I desire etc etc. Stop and pinch yourself. Seriously, pinch yourself, it disrupts the negative thought pattern. Once you realise it is just a thought and it doesn’t define you, you can then take positive action. Sit down and do a meditation, say I love you, talk to a loved one.
In honour of such an important topic I recorded a short self love meditation to share with you. All week I’ve been exploring the concept of resisting what we most need in our life. So if you encounter any resistance around doing this short meditation, just acknowledge the resistance, become aware that it is there and then chose to go ahead and do it anyway. Taking positive action, even when we don’t want to, is always the way forward. I hope you enjoy it and please let me know how you found it in the comments section below the video.
